Professor of Modern German Literature at Goethe University Frankfurt. Directs the DFG long-term edition of Clemens Brentano’s works and letters; the historical-critical hybrid edition of Goethe’s Faust appeared in 2018. Planned the German Romanticism Museum, opened in 2021. Vice-President and board member of the Goethe Society in Weimar since 2007.

Director, Stuttgart Research Centre for Text Studies
Co-director of the Laboratorio Bembo at Ca’ Foscari University in Venice and lecturer in modern German literature and philosophy in Stuttgart and Venice. Editor of several journals and series, among them Nietzsche-Studien and Zeitsprünge. Heads the edition project on Goethe’s Venezianische Epigramme.
